Sharing Success

Harney Electric Cooperative, Inc. was established with the belief that we have both economic and social responsibilities to our members and our communities. These groups should benefit from our existence. When programs of mutual interest can benefit our service area, we are compelled by our ideals and objectives to provide leadership and cooperation.

For the past eight years Harney Electric has partnered with Co-Bank to fulfill an ongoing mission to service rural America and build vibrant communities across the country. The Board has determined that up to $10,000 per year be set aside for possible donation to qualifying organizations. Co-Bank will match that donation for a possible maximum gift of $20,000. This limit was increased in 2020 from $15,000.

Program Participant & Gift Match Eligibility

The Sharing Success program runs each year from April 1 through August 31, or the point at which the fund is exhausted. In general, contributions to any 501(c)(3) charity are eligible for match under the Sharing Success program. Select organizations that are not designated a 501(c)(3) may also be eligible. These organizations include schools and government organizations such as counties or municipalities and their agencies or departments, as long as the donation serves a public purpose and is consistent with the purpose and guidelines of the Sharing Success program. Organizations that are political in nature, limit their activities based on religious affiliation, or discriminate do not qualify. CoBank reserves the right to review and determine whether requests are eligible for matching contributions.

The project should be within Harney Electric's service territory and benefit the HEC membership and/or the Cooperative indirectly.

Application Timeline

Sharing Success applications will be accepted beginning April 1 through August 31. No award will be granted if Co-Bank’s matching fund has been exhausted. The board reserves the right to award the grant at any time for time-sensitive projects, so applicants should be aware that sooner is better for consideration.

Application Instructions

Interested applicants must complete the application form in its entirety. A copy of the designated charity’s IRS 501(c)(3) tax exemption notification must be included with the application. If the recipient organization is not a 501(c)(3), please submit the organization’s TIN (taxpayer identification number), also referred to as an EIN (employer identification number). Additionally, a letter describing the project, the cost, and the timeline for completion should be submitted with the application.
